On Guru Pradosh, the Kanwariyas started queuing up from midnight itself for the Jal Abhishek of Baba Vishwanath. The group of Kanwariyas started reaching Banaras with water from Prayagraj since last evening. The queue of devotees started forming in the barricades only after late evening for the Jal Abhishek and Darshan-Pujan of Baba on the first Pradosh of Sawan.
Pradosh Vrat is considered important for the happiness of Lord Shiva. Pradosh Vrat destroys misery and poverty and creates opportunities for happiness and prosperity. Astrologer Vimal Jain said that Pradosh Vrat will be observed on August 1.
Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of Shravan month will start on August 1 at 3:30 pm and will continue till 3:27 pm on August 2. Trayodashi Tithi will be valid on August 1 in Pradosh time.
According to the Panchang of Kashi, Harshan Yog, Mrigshira Nakshatra, Lakshmi Narayan Yog are also being formed on this day of Pradosh. Mrigshira Nakshatra will remain till 10:24 am on August 1. The time of Pradosh period is considered to be 48 minutes or 72 minutes from sunset. The worship of Lord Shiva should begin during this period.
On the day of the fast, one remains without food and water the entire day. Worshiping Lord Shiva on Guru Pradosh leads to victory and attainment of goals. For the fulfillment of desired wishes, it is prescribed to keep 11 Pradosh fasts or fast on all Trayodashi dates of the year or keep Pradosh fast until the wish is fulfilled.
